Paediatric Dentistry Postgraduate Certificate
The Paediatric Dentistry Postgraduate Certificate is an innovative part-time programme for dentists and therapists wanting to enhance their skills in treating children. A key feature is the opportunity for clinicians to discuss their own cases with colleagues and seminar leaders as one of the aims of this programme is to support ongoing clinical work as well as enhancing skills.
Degree summary
What will I learn?
Students develop an understanding of the cause and effects of dental disease in children and adolescents; alongside the clinical skills necessary for prevention and treatment. As well as looking at growth and development, the relationship between orthodontics and paediatric dentistry is also covered, to help candidates to treatment plan effectively.

Students benefit from the excellent facilities offered by the Eastman CPD including the management of anxious patients (including inhalation sedation); management of dental trauma; and the management of dental anomalies such as hypodontia or enamel and dentine defects.
Teaching is provided by staff from the Paediatric Dentistry Unit, who have expertise in caring for young patients with behavioural problems, dental trauma, craniofacial anomalies and severe medical conditions.

Teaching and Learning
The programme is delivered through a combination of seminars, lectures and hands-on sessions in our skills lab. Assessment will be through written and practical tests, case presentations, essay and viva throughout the programme.
Entry and application
Entry requirements
All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification (Diploma level for therapists) and have a minimum of two years' clinical experience. In addition they must currently be treating children.

The deadline for applications for this programme is 28 June for the year of entry. However, late applications may be considered after this date. Students are advised to apply as early as possible due to competition for places. Students applying for scholarship funding (particularly overseas applicants) should take note of application deadlines.
