UCL EDI is a purely graduate institute, enabling it to focus exclusively on graduate level education, training and research. The Eastman maintains its vitality through the constant review of its clinical teaching and laboratory research programmes, coupled with the use of the latest technological advances. Curricula are continuously refined to stay at the forefront of educational and evidence-based clinical developments. Leading academics and scientists from the UK and around the world regularly lecture as guest speakers at the Eastman.

The Institute’s graduate population comes from over 65 countries, with 60% from the UK or EU, and 40% from overseas. Eastman graduates have achieved an impressive record and enjoyed successful careers in dental institutes, hospitals, professional organisations, government ministerial positions and private practice.

Quality-assured education

The UCL Eastman Dental Institute (UCL EDI) has gained among the highest ratings both for research and teaching in recent UK Government assessments. In the RAE 2008 UCL Eastman Dental Institute achieved the 2nd highest “research power” score in Dentistry, calculated by multiplying research quality by the volume of staff submitted and the last round of the Subject Review carried out by the Quality Assurance Agency the UCl Eastman was awarded a teaching quality rating of 23 (out of 24).

The Institute was awarded The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in the 2002 round, which was a particularly eminent achievement as it was the first time that a dental school had been recognised in this way.
