Introduction

The unit aims to provide leadership in periodontology through research, training and clinical excellence.

  • Our clinical team of specialists, consultants and trainees provides consultations and advanced periodontal and implant treatment to more than 1200 patients each year.
  • Our academic team provides advanced training programs (accredited by the European Federation of Periodontology and the UK Specialist Advisory Committee) and a variety of continuing education events for general practitioners and periodontists.
  • Our research team is instrumental in the development, evaluation and clinical application of new diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic approaches for periodontal diseases and oral implantology and engaged in relevant fundamental research.

World Class Education

The art and science of clinical periodontology is closely intertwined with basic science in the daily efforts of the unit, with the periodontal health of our patients as our core objective.  The members of the unit emphasise teamwork amongst academic staff, clinical staff, graduates and administrative staff.

Research Interests

Our main areas of research are in accordance with the priorities of the department of Clinical Research:

  • Wound healing
  • Inflammation and infection
  • Outcome based oral health
