Specialist Training in Prosthodontics
The Specialist Training Programme in Prosthodontics is a three calendar year full-time (minimum four calendar years part-time) programme. The MClinDent in Prosthodontics is taken in the first two years and must be completed before entering the final year.
The final year can be taken full-time for one calendar year or part time over two calendar years and comprises time in an approved private practice, time in clinical practice within the Eastman and the equivalent of one day per week in timetabled activities preparing for the MRD examination. Emphasis is placed on demonstrating the required clinical experience through the completion of a log book of clinical cases which will include distance-supervision of treatment undertaken in private practice. Detailed documentation of at least four cases, of which two must be interdisciplinary, are required to be submitted to the MRD examiners. Continued personal involvement in the creative and diagnostic stages of laboratory work will be required, however the trainee will be expected to make increased use of technical support.
In the final year of the programme participants present themselves to the Royal College of Surgeons for the MRD examination not more than six months before completion of training.
For applicants outside the European Union the Eastman offers a three year MClinDent in Prosthodontics (Advanced Training) programme to meet specialist training requirements. The Eastman also offers the two calendar year full-time (or part-time equivalent) MClinDent in Prosthodontics as a degree-only programme. Graduates intending to seek specialist recognition in other countries, or who do not hold a dental qualification registerable in the UK, may find the MClinDent pathway more appropriate for their needs.
