level.

The programme has UK General Dental Council and European Federation of Periodontology recognition as an approved training programme for specialisation in Periodontology.
Periodontology Specialist Training
This three year programme is intended to enable the successful candidate to practice Periodontics at a specialist level.
The programme is intended to provide a sound and intensive knowledge of the basic principles of the aetiology, progression and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases as well as the management of advanced periodontal cases. Particular emphasis is placed on achieving theoretical as well as clinical knowledge to the highest possible standard. It aims not only to develop clinical abilities but also to stimulate critical and analytical thinking in both the clinical and research environment. The Programme is designed to prepare candidates for the degree of Master of Clinical Dentistry in Periodontics.
On successful completion of the Programme the candidate should be able to assess and manage both the basic and advanced periodontal needs of a patient.

The deadline for applications is 13 January 2012 for September 2012. However, late applications may be considered after this date. Interviews of the short listed individuals will take place in February 2012. Students are advised to apply as early as possible due to competition for places. Entry requirements: |
An approved dental qualification plus a minimum of two years' clinical experience prior to the commencement of studies. Applicants for Specialist Training pathways should refer to the Notes for Applicants to Specialist Training Programmes. Please refer to the admissions web pages for details of English language proficiency and health requirements. |

Who should apply: |
The programme is suitable for qualified dental surgeons who wish to follow an SAC-approved Specialist Training
programme with a view to sitting the MRD examination of one of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons. |
