Who should apply?: |
The
programme is specifically designed for the general dental practitioner
who is keen to follow a structured course but is unable to undertake
full-time postgraduate study. It is ideal for the busy practitioner
wishing to work at a higher, more satisfying level. The Programme is approved by the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) for accreditation towards its Career Pathway. |

Entry requirements: |
Graduates should have at least three years post-qualification practical experience to achieve maximum benefit, be in practice in the UK/EU whilst undertaking the programme and hold GDC registration. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis subject to graduates fulfilling the above prerequisites (and UCL English language requirements). |

- the restoration or replacement of anterior and posterior teeth;
- modern endodontic techniques;
- current practice in periodontology;
- a multidisciplinary approach to the management of the partially dentate patient

- Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction in practice

- removable and complete Partial Denture Prosthetics

Aims & Objectives
Aim
The aim of the MSc in Restorative Dental Practice is to extend
knowledge of Restorative Dentistry beyond the level obtained at
undergraduate level in order to enhance the graduates’ ability to
provide high quality comprehensive management for the majority of
patients.
Objective
The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, qualities, skills and other attributes in the field of restorative dental practice.
Assessment
The programme follows a modularised structure. The modules have a
credit weighting and will be separately assessed.
Certificate (Year 1)
Typical assessment during year 1 includes essays, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) examination and a reflective learning log.
Year 1 must be satisfactorily completed before proceeding to years 2 and 3.
Diploma (Years 2 and 3)
Assessment takes place during both years 2 and 3 and will
include essays, Multiple Choice Question (MCQs) examination, practical
work and a practical development portfolio.
MSc (Years 4 and 5)
Graduates will be required to produce a 10,000 – 12,000 word dissertation.
Formative assessment (throughout the programme)
Clinical, practical and academic skills are assessed throughout each graduate's time at the Eastman. Some of this assessment is “formative” i.e it does not contribute to the final degree result but does aid the learning experience.
Teaching methods
Timetabling
Certificate (Year 1)
The certificate year extends over 28 days starting in
January and takes place either on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays
throughout the year. Graduates are able to select their preferred
teaching day subject to availability.
Diploma (Years 2 and 3)
The Diploma years involve monthly attendance (12 days) at UCL Eastman for lecture and practical based days (24 days in total).
MSc (Years 4 and 5)
Graduates are required to attend a 3-4 day lecture and small group teaching course covering clinical research methodology. Graduates will also be required to attend for a further 6 half-days throughout the programme. Supervision is arranged in consultation with the graduates' supervisor(s).
