Our aim is to support ORE students during their examination preparation and during their subsequent practice.  In our state of the art skills laboratories, students are able to develop their skills and confidence in a scenario which closely replicates that of the examination.  We have recently purchased 30 sets of Frasaco jaws and teeth for the sole use of the ORE students.

Dates of ORE courses are listed on the Courses Diary - please note that dates for the new courses will be included shortly. We will run additional courses to meet demand wherever possible.

After a short lecture, the day concentrates on practical work encompassing:

  • Airway, BLS & AED, Equipment & Drugs skills
  • Assessment of the sick patient

ORE Mock Examinations

This day is designed to enable candidates to undertake 3 of the set dental manikin head tasks in exam conditions and within the required timescales. Each practice examination day will have different tasks. In the afternoon, a review of the morning will take place and individual feedback will be given.  Please be advised that such feedback is strictly related to the student’s performance on the practice examination day and whilst an essential part of the student’s preparation for the actual exam is not a guarantee that students will pass the actual exam.  The opinions of the examiners at the practice examination day are those of experienced UCL Eastman Dental Institute teachers and represent their interpretation of the ORE Examination syllabus and GDC regulations for the Dental Manikin Examination.  These may not exactly replicate those of the ORE Examiners.

After the feedback session, the students will undertake further practice in the skills laboratory.

ORE Part 2: Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

The day will comprise of an initial lecture, small group discussion of cases and then individual consideration of cases.  Students will then be asked to verbally present their treatment plans to build their confidence and to be aware of timing issues.  The delegates will be required to use different coloured paper for the different elements of the examination.   Feedback will be provided.  There will be a DTP revision day 7-14 days before each examination diet.
