Removable Prosthodontics: Complete & Partial Dentures

A four day course on the principles of complete and partial denture construction, combining didactic teaching, hands-on sessions in clinical skills labs, and live patient demonstrations.

What will I learn?

The course aims to highlight the knowledge and skills required to assess, treatment plan and treat patients who require partial or complete dentures.

Why should I study this course at the Institute?

Few removable prosthodontics courses of this nature are available.  Alongside lectures, the course provides live patient demonstrations and hands-on training in a dedicated clinical skills laboratory.

Days 1 & 2: Removable Partial Dentures

  • Update on biological considerations
  • Review design principles
  • Clinical treatment sequencing
  • Useful clinical tips and problem-solving
  • Treatment sequencing when integrating fixed and removable prostheses
  • Integrating aesthetics and function
  • Importance of tooth preparation and surveying
  • Replacing missing anterior teeth
  • Replacing missing teeth with partial dentures: the fixed-removable interface, the metal framework try-in
  • Practical session: denture design excercises
  • Laboratory aspects: repairs, relines, additions, rebasing

Days 3 & 4: Complete Dentures

  • Patient selection and clinical assessment
  • The principle of biometric guides: individual treatment planning, the rationale for tooth placement
  • Clinical techniques
  • Identifying and dealing with problems
  • Aesthetics
  • Implants and attachment systems

Teaching and learning

The course is delivered via lectures, live patient demonstration and hands-on training.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold an approved dental qualification.
