Implant Dentistry: An Introduction

A two day course that aims to provide the first steps into the world of implant dentistry. Through theoretical and hands-on training it provides an overview of the field, tailored for beginners.

What will I learn?

The course aims to give the beginner an overview of current thinking in the field of implant planning, placement and restoration, serving as an excellent platform towards further postgraduate training in implant dentistry.

Why should I study this course at the Institute?

The course is led and taught by experienced specialist prosthodontists who have been placing and restoring implants in practice for many years. With experience in training dentists to provide implant treatment as part of the Institute's Implant Dentistry PG Dip, the friendly and approachable staff are well positioned to support the novice in this advanced area of dentistry.  State-of-the-art audiovisual and skills lab facilities are able to fully support and enhance participants training.

Core content

  • Patient assessment, basic implant science
  • Implant planning
  • Implant treatment sequence
  • Hands on implant placement on specially designed models
  • Implant prosthodontics (implant impressions, provisionals, occlusion and final fit)
  • Hands-on implant impressions and provisional

Teaching and learning

The morning sessions are structured to give interactive seminars on the theoretical aspects of dental implants. The seminars are supplemented with videos of live clinical cases to highlight key stages in treatment.

In the afternoon hands-on sessions, implant placement, impressions and provisional restoration fabrication are demonstrated. The participant is then able to practice these skills under close supervision.

Each session is packed with practical clinical tips which can be applied to implant dentistry as well as the wider field of restorative dentistry.

Applicants must hold an approved dental qualification.
