Finance & Management

A six day course designed to increase the understanding of practice owners and associates regarding financial and employment issues within the practice environment, providing the insight and information to allow practitioners make more informed decisions. The days are interactive with participants analysing actual sets of accounts, preparing budgets, and setting fees.

What will I learn?

The course aims to help students to understand the theory of financial management, to feel more comfortable using the terminology and feel more confident when discussing proposals with their bank manager, solicitor or accountant.

Why should I study this course at the Institute?

The course addresses the key principles of finance and practice management (the theory) and then uses practical dental scenarios and examples to consolidate the students understanding and application of these theories.

Day Four: Thinking of Buying or Selling a Practice?

  • advice from a bank manager, a solicitor and an accountant with extensive experience of buying and selling dental practices

Day Five: Employment Law

  • employment contracts for both staff and associates
  • statutory disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • age legislation

Day Six: What Next?

  • expansion

Teaching and learning

The course leaders will be assisted by a number of accountants, solicitors, financial advisors and bank managers, all of whom have extensive experience within the dental profession. Students, at whatever stage in their careers, will receive valuable advice regarding a broad spectrum of financial and employment issues.

Entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification.
