Fiona Ryan recently successfully defended a PhD in Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) entitled Psychological aspects of dentofacial discrepancy and orthognathic treatment.
The PhD was funded by a Fellowship awarded by the British Orthodontic Society Foundation and grants from the European Orthodontic Society and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
The four year research programme utilised both qualitative and quantitative methodology to investigate a variety of aspects relevant to individuals with dentofacial deformity, including psychological characteristics, personality, impacts, motivations, expectations, and involvement in treatment decision-making. The study revealed a number of new findings that will be of relevance to future clinical care.
