This MSc provides an introduction to geohazards, research methods and field techniques, together with advanced courses in seismology, volcanology, hydrogeological hazards and meteorology.


To develop the participants ability to undertake independent research particularly in relation to:

  1. Critical review of the relevant literature
  2. Planning and effective execution of scientific techniques
  3. Data analysis
  4. Evaluation of the results
  5. Effective presentation of research findings


Knowledge and understanding of:

  • key literature relevant to the topic
  • how to apply one or more appropriate research techniques
  • the need to manage time and resources to meet a deadline.
