The Geochemistry Group
Research School of Earth Sciences at UCL-Birkbeck
Agate is a microcrystalline variety of silica, chiefly chalcedony, characterised by its fineness of grain and brightness of color
The Group is supported by the Wolfson Laboratory for Environmental Chemistry, by an XRF preparation laboratory, an electron microprobe, and by the radiogenic isotope laboratories at Royal Holloway College, University of London. Members of the Group also regularly use NERC facilities (NIGL, ICP-AES, ICP-MS, the Uranium Series Facility, Open University).
Our funding comes from a wide range of sources, including NERC, NSERC (Canada), NATO, JREI, The Wolfson Foundation, the University of London Central Research Fund, Tesco, Historic Scotland, UCL Graduate School, Mineralogical Society for Great Britain & Ireland.
