Mr Misha Verkerk

Core Surgical Trainee

I am a Researcher at evidENT and a Core Surgical Trainee in London. I hold a First Class degree in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge, and undertook my clinical training at UCL after which I completed the Academic Foundation Programme in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

My research aims to improve the care of children with recurrent ear infections.

I work closely with the team at evidENT and the Farr Institute as well as collaborators at the Universities of Cambridge, Southampton & Sunderland and UMC Utrecht in the Netherlands. My work is supported by a research award from the Royal College of General Practitioners (http://www.rcgp.org.uk/clinical-and-research/research-opportunities-and-...).

The projects I work on include:

  • Recurrent acute otitis media in UK children; current incidence, management and treatment effects: a longitudinal study of linked electronic health records
  • Cochrane Review: Interventions for the prevention of post-operative grommet (ventilation tube) obstruction
  • Recurrent acute otitis media in the Eurotitis-2 and TARGET studies: analysis of existing trial data
