Dr Lorna Harper…

Lorna's research interests are in maximising the diagnostic value of routinely acquired structural imaging in the diagnosis of dementia, using a variety of techniques, from simple visual assessment tools to more complex statistical pattern recognition based on machine learning. Her research focuses on using imaging acquired during life in individuals with post mortem confirmation of dementia, which is currently the diagnostic gold standard. Lorna is also interested in open data, and how best to share such valuable resources to advance biomarker discovery.

Lorna is now working on PET imaging in dementia and is currently involved in a tau and amyloid imaging study of young onset Alzheimer’s disease. In collaboration with colleagues at the UCL Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Lorna is also working on an imaging pipeline to generate synthetic data to test partial volume correction algorithms.

Before joining the DRC Lorna worked as an NHS clinical scientist in Nuclear Medicine. She is registered as a clinical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council and holds chartered scientist status.
