Student Disability Services
UCL welcomes applications from disabled students. We support students with physical and sensory impairments, specific learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorders, mental health difficulties, and long-term health conditions.
In line with the Equality Act 2010, UCL makes reasonable adjustments to support disabled students in higher education. Our particular aim is to support students, as far as possible, to study independently during their time at UCL.
The following are included under the umbrella term 'disabilities':
- Specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia)
- Blindness or visual impairment
- Deafness or hearing impairment
- Mobility difficulties (e.g. wheelchair users, back pain, hypermobility)
- Mental health difficulties (e.g. depression, anxiety)
- Autistic spectrum conditions (e.g. Asperger syndrome)
- Long-term health issues (e.g. diabetes, arthritis, cancer, HIV)
This is by no means an exhaustive list. Student Disability Services is here to support and advise you if you are facing (or potentially facing) disabling barriers to higher education. We hope that these web pages will answer your immediate questions about:
- Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs)
- Special examination arrangements
- Dyslexia screening (and screening for other specific learning difficulties)
However, for a more detailed discussion of your needs, please make an appointment to visit us – or visit during our drop-in hours. Student Disability Services works with students on an individual basis and we encourage you to come and meet us to discuss your particular needs.
