Victoria Hoyle

I am a Research Associate in the department and am currently working on an AHRC project on the information rights ecology in the public and voluntary sectors, focusing especially on social care records. The aim of the project is to better understand the complexity of the current landscape to help people to exercise their subject access rights, and also ensure the privacy and confidentiality of their data.

I am also completing my PhD part time at the University of York. It is part of collaborative doctoral partnership with City of York Council and considers the impact of heritage discourse and values on engagement between archival institutions and community audiences. Both projects use a participatory action research approach, working with partner organisations and individuals as collaborators and co-producers.

I have previously worked as an archives practitioner in both local authority and university settings. Most recently I was City Archivist with Explore York Libraries and Archives (2010-2017), responsible for the development and strategic management of the archives and local history service.
