Nick Canty
I lecture on the MA in Publishing programme where I lead two modules; The Publishing Business in Term 1 aims to provide a detailed understand of the 'Anglo American' publishing module, in Term 2 Commissioning, Research and Project Management.
I worked in the publishing industry for almost 15 years as a commissioning editor and publisher. I worked for Pearson plc, Thomson Reuters and was most recently Publishing Director for the academic press of a major professional institution. In my previous professional work I have set up and managed commercial business units and launched various commercial enterprises, from book lists to major online information services. I have been involved with a variety of media and publishing formats covering print and online services.
I was a member of the Professional Development Committee of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) and I am a member of the Association of Publishing Education (APE), the Association of Internet Researchers (AIR-L) and SHARP http://www.sharpweb.org/
The Centre for Publishing collaborates with the Universite Paris 13 and their Masters publishing programme. As well as student exchanges we lecture in Paris and conduct joint research.
Research interests include the value and impact of social media within publishing organisations and publishing companies in transition.
I jointly organise the UCL / Publishers Association Digital Publishing Forum events which take place at UCL throughout the year.
