Elizabeth Shepherd

Dr Elizabeth Shepherd qualified as an archivist and worked in archives
and records management in local government before becoming a records
management specialist at TFPL Ltd. In 1992 she was appointed in the Department of Information Studies at University College London
(UCL), to update and revise the MA in Archives and Records Management
of which she was programme director until 2002. In 2003 she was
appointed a senior lecturer and in 2007, Reader. She teaches records management and management skills for
archivists. Her research interests are in the development of the UK
archive profession, which is the subject of her PhD and monograph, and links between
records management and information policy compliance, on which she is
running an AHRC-funded project (see details on the ICARUS webpages). She serves on the editorial boards of Archival Science, Journal of the Society of Archivists and the Records Management Journal,
was a member of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Council on National
Records and Archives from 2000-2006, the AHRC Peer Review College and
RAE2008 Panel 37. She has published numerous articles and (with Geoffrey
Yeo) the best selling book Managing Records: a handbook of principles and practice (Facet Publishing, 2003) and is author of the monograph, Archives and archivists in 20th century England (Ashgate, 2009).
