Dr Velia Cardin

My research focuses on how the brain extracts meaningful
entities from sensory information. I did a PhD at the Laboratory of
Neurobiology, UCL, on the neural pathways processing meaningful and meaningless
shapes. After this, I had a postdoctoral position at Royal Holloway, University
of London, investigating the brain mechanisms involved in the extraction of
visual cues for self-motion.
At DCAL, I am working on the Sights and Signs project, run in collaboration with the University of Linkoping, looking at how visuo-spatial information of familiar and unfamiliar sign languages is integrated in the brain in deaf and hearing people.
