Lilli Risner

I am a Deaf Community Liaison Officer for DCAL on a part-time basis, my main duties are to manage and organise the recruitment of volunteers for DCAL and to attend recruitment events.

I am a Deaf native BSL user, and my family is Deaf too. I have worked within the deaf community for many years as a deaf interpreter, in-vision interpreter, deafblind interpreter and as a presenter.

I feel very lucky to be able to work in the hub of two things I am very passionate about, one is the field of psychology, especially research. The second being the well-being of deaf children in terms of being entitled to access their own natural language, equality in education and making sure the child's parents are given accurate information surrounding language acquisition.

I run a group called Deaf Parents Deaf Children (DPDC), and we hope to achieve a better future for all deaf children. I am also about to embark on a Psychology degree at Birkbeck with a view to do Clinical Psychology one day.
