DCAL Speaker Series Adam Stone will be presenting about his ongoing work in bilingual books that incorporate both sign language and written language. A new field in children's book publishing made possible only by very recent advances in computing, "bilingual ebooks" are now proliferating across app stores. Adam will discuss how he created and published one such ASL/English ebook, "Pointy Three", and review methodologies for evaluating the implementation and efficacy of such ebooks and their impact on deaf children's literacy development.

Data Capture in BSL Workshop
Have you ever wanted to collect qualitative or quantitative data from BSL users online? Katie and Rachel are leading the way using data capture technology to allow research participants to respond online to BSL questionnaires or to sign an open ended response to interview questions. There are many different potential uses for this technology including online cognitive and language data collection.

Format

1st hour Presentations by Katie Rogers and Rachel Belk on current applications of data capture technology, barriers and ethical considerations.
2nd hour Group discussion on potential use of data capture technology at DCAL
