Implementing innovation in NHS Trusts: the case of NICE
workplace guidance in acute hospitals
Following the Boorman Review (2009), there has been more focus on the health of NHS staff, with the introduction of staff health and wellbeing measurements in the NHS staff survey and with the NHS constitution pledging to NHS staff that they have a right to ‘work within a healthy and safe workplace’ (Department of Health, 2009). The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) provides guidance for employers on how to improve the health of their staff. Through over 50 face-to-face interviews with staff from three NHS acute Trusts, and through document and process analysis, this project seeks to understand how NHS acute Trusts disseminate and implement innovations, namely the NICE workplace guidance.
