PhD Students and Other Academic Opportunities

What some of our PhD students and other trainees have said about studying at UCL:

“As a registrar in public health I did an eight-month placement in DAHR in 2015. It was a really enjoyable placement with opportunities to get involved with a wide range of research. I analysed data for a study investigating GP decision making and cancer. I helped develop proposals for an online learning tool for GPs on clinical reasoning. I contributed to the evaluation of the childhood flu vaccination programme, including writing a paper on the evidence for school based vaccination programmes. I worked with researchers on documentary analysis for a Trust board quality improvement programme. And there were lots of opportunities to teach and help with course development. All in all a busy and interesting placement!”

[In the Department of Applied Health Research] I’m surrounded by staff and students who are passionate about what they do. The multidisciplinary nature of my department also means that I am constantly exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking, which has really helped me to develop as a researcher.

UCL offers a wide range of seminar programmes and diverse training courses which make it a great environment for early career researchers. In particular, the Institute’s Early Career Forum provides a great opportunity to air and discuss issues of special relevance to those starting out in their research careers.
