Dr Turner joined UCL in April 2012 as Senior Research Associate within the Department of Applied Heath Research. Prior to joining UCL, he held research positions at King’s College London (2010-2012), the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (2008-2010) and the University of Cambridge (2007-2008). He holds a PhD grounded in social anthropology from Durham University (2006) and masters (2002) and bachelors (2001) degrees in geography from Birmingham University. He collaborates on corporate governance projects at the Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge (www.cbr.cam.ac.uk) and the London Centre for Corporate Governance and Ethics, Birkbeck (www.lccge.bbk.ac.uk).
Dr turner's research interests lie in the application of social theory to managerial and professional practice, particularly situated learning theory. Dr Turner is currently conducting research on how formal and informal governance arrangements within NHS hospitals shape frontline practices of patient safety.
