Catherine is a National Institute for Health Research Doctoral Research Fellow and is undertaking her PhD on the boundaries between academic and health organisations in Academic Health Science Centres and how knowledge translation can be achieved across these boundaries.
Prior to starting her fellowship in 2010, Catherine worked in the NHS for 8 years in management and service improvement roles across acute care, commissioning and mental health, and therefore brings a practical understanding of the NHS to her research. Most recently, Catherine was Service Manager for HIV and Sexual Health at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where she also held a Fellowship at the NIHR CLAHRC for North West London.
In addition to her UCL role Catherine is an Associate Fellow at the University of Warwick Medical School and is Module Leader on the Organisational Behaviour and Health Service Policy MSc module. Catherine has a first class degree in Politics from the University of Sheffield, where she was awarded the David Marquand prize for her dissertation on joined up government and drugs policy, and an MSc in Health Services Management (with distinction) from the University of Warwick.
Catherine’s main research interest is in how traditional boundaries between academic and healthcare organisations are spanned. Drawing on her NHS background, she is also interested in the role of managers in research, how multidisciplinary teams work together and how research evidence is translated into practice. She also has an interest in the health policy process and undertook her MSc dissertation on the role of the state and NHS values.
