UCL Day Nursery

The UCL Day Nursery provides high quality childcare and nursery education, giving priority to the development needs and happiness of our children and their families in a safe, nurturing and stimulating care environment. As part of this process the Nursery recognises and values the diverse community that it serves, believing that quality can be achieved by working together in partnership with parents, carers and OFSTED.

In February 2012 the Day Nursery received a GOOD Ofsted Inspection.

The Nursery's childcare and education provision is firmly based on the following principles:

• Every child is a unique individual
• All children have skills and abilities that need to be brought out and built upon
• The starting point of children's education is what they can do, not what they cannot do
• Children have the right to develop physically, socially, emotionally, morally and intellectually to their full potential
• All children learn through first hand experiences, using their five senses
• Learning is holistic for young children

The Nursery is located on two sites at 50-51 and 55-59 Gordon Square and open to staff and students of UCL. It can accommodate a combined total of 62 children between the ages of three months and five years. The 62 places are divided into the Baby Room, which has 24 places for 'babies' between three months and 2 years and the Toddler Room, which has 38 places for 'children' between two and five years. The Nursery is open from 8.45 am to 5.30 pm Mondays to Fridays.

There is usually a waiting-list for places (especially baby places). Nursery fees, which are subject to annual review, will be £55.43 for under 2 year olds per day and £47.74 per day for 3-5 year olds from 1 August 2011. A full breakdown of the fees for 2011-12 are available here.  There is an additional charge for lunch and tea, £2.10 for lunch and £0.82 for tea.

Some parents may be eligible to apply to the Government's childcare grant scheme.
