Adler Prize for Undergraduate Excellence in HIV and GU Medicine

The Adler Prizes were established at UCL Medical School in 2010 by donation from Gilead Science.  The prizes are named in recognition of Professor Michael Adler for his pioneering work in the academic field of HIV and GU Medicine.  Professor Adler set up the UK's first academic department for the study of sexually transmitted diseases; was the Chair of GU Medicine at UCL Medical School from 1974 to 2004; President of the National Society for the Study of Venereal Diseases from 1997 to1999; and led the development of the UK national strategy for sexually transmitted diseases.

1. Three prizes may be awarded each session.
2. The prizes are awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the Faculty of    Biomedical Sciences.
3. The prizes are open to students of any country undertaking the Women's Health and Communicable Diseases (WHCD) module in the Department of Infection and Population Health.
4. The award is made to the student(s) who shows the greatest proficiency in questions relating to HIV and GU Medicine in the MBBS examinations in each of the Women's Health and Communicable Diseases modules.  The overall marks for the WHCD assessment may be taken into account in the event of a tie.
5. No application is necessary.
6. The value of the prize is £100.  Each award is accompanied by a certificate.
7. The awards are announced in December, April and August.
8. Awards are subject to the provisions of the General Regulations.
