Daniel Jones Memorial Scholarship or Prize
- A Scholarship or Prize, known as the Daniel
Jones Memorial Scholarship or
Prize, may be awarded in each session.
- The award is made by the Council on the recommendation
of the Faculty of
Life Sciences.
- The Scholarship or Prize may be awarded as may be
recommended by the Head of
Department of Phonetics and Linguistics to a student
who has done work of
distinction in the Department or who, on entering
the Department, shows
particular merit.
- The value of the Scholarship or Prize is such sum (not
normally exceeding
£670 in total) as may be decided for each award.
- A Scholarship is tenable for one session. Scholars must
normally pursue a
course of study or research in Phonetics at UCL; they may
be permitted in
exceptional circumstances to pursue a course elsewhere if the Faculty of
Life
Sciences approves.
- No application is necessary. The qualifications of
students eligible for an
award are considered by the Head of the Department of
Phonetics and
Linguistics.
- Any balance of the income of the fund not
required for provision of a
Scholarship or Prize (including the whole of the income
for any year in which no
award is made) may be allowed to accumulate for use in future
awards or may be
used for such other purpose conducive to the study of Phonetics at UCL
as the
Head of the Department of Phonetics and Linguistics may
from time to time
determine.
- Awards are subject to the provisions of the General Regulations.
