Tuition Fee Support (UK Undergraduate Students)

Continuing Students

Student Loan Tuition Fee Support

Continuing students who started their course before 1 September 2012 can apply for an 'old system' student loan to pay their fees. Tuition fees loans available to these students in 2014/15 are a maximum of £3,465.

Continuing students who started their course on or after 1 September 2012 can apply for a student loan to pay their fees. Tuition fee loans available to these students in 2014/15 are a maximum of £9,000.

Part time undergraduate students can apply for a fee grant. These loans are repayable, but only once you meet the earning threshold set by the Government. Grants are not repayable.

Fees are paid on the student’s behalf directly to UCL by the Student Loans Company.

How to Re-Apply

Continuing students should apply online now for student finance for 2014/15.

You can apply for student finance up to nine months after the start of the academic year if you're a full-time or part-time student.

The main changes are that:

  • Universities can charge tuition fees of up to £9,000
  • Tuition Fee Loans will increase to cover the higher fees
  • Part-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan (replacing grants) for the first time
  • You don’t start repaying your loan until you earn £21,000 (up from £15,000)
  • Applications for courses starting from 1 September 2014 will not open until at least February 2014.

Tuition Fee Loans

The Tuition Fee Loan covers the fees you’re charged each year of your course. It’s paid directly to UCL. UCL will be charging £9,000 for full time UK/EU programmes from September 2012.

How and When to Apply

New full-time students whose course starts after 1 September 2012 can apply now for student finance. New part-time students can apply, using a paper form, from summer 2012. You need to complete your application for student finance before 31 May 2014 to be sure you have your money when you start your course.

You can apply for student finance up to nine months after the start of the academic year if you're a full-time student.
