UCL is in the heart of London and within walking distance of a wealth
of specialised research institutes, archives and libraries. It offers a
unique range of expertise in European history as well as the history of
Europe in its relation with the wider world. Alongside the History
Department, many historians work in the language departments, SSEES and
the Department of Science and Technology Studies. The overall number of full time
historians at UCL amounts to ca. 70. Geographically, UCL deals with
West, Central, Eastern and Southern Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa
and meso-regions such as the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and the
Balkans. It offers the opportunity to study History in a cross-national
perspective and at the same time to focus on specific countries or
regions. There are close links with institutions such as the School of
Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the Institute for Historical
Research and with other institutions within the School for Advanced
Study and the London based cultural institutes of many countries. |
