Portrait of Crabtree

The Portrait of Joseph Crabtree (1754-1854), presented to the Crabtree Foundation by Professor Sir James Sutherland, and believed by Sir William Coldstream to be the work of Sir Henry Raeburn.

Chair

Chair

The Chair, as used by Crabtree, was expertly reconstructed by Professor Peter Rowe, a former Orator. The tapestry was designed and executed by Professor Bartolmeu and Fernanda dos Santos. The Chair is used by the President at the annual dinner and oration.

First Dinner Table Plan

First Dinner Table Plan

The table-plan for the first dinner of the Crabtree Foundation, drawn up by the first President, Professor Hugh Smith. The first Orator was Professor (later Sir) James Sutherland. Missing from this plan is the first Secretary and second Orator, Professor Arthur Brown - did he sit apart? Of those who were present, the following became Orators: Professor Terence Spencer (3), Professor R. V. Jones (4), Professor Hugh Smith (5), Charles Peake (17) and John Dodgson (20).
