Our lab meetings typically include a Data Club and a Journal Club. Papers for Journal Club should be: (1) relevant to the lab, (2) important, (3) recent, (4) good. Or at least meet 3 of those criteria. To check a paper against these criteria, read it (don't just extrapolate from title and abstract).
