William Brett

William is a PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr Meg Russell. His research examines the discourse of the modern British constitutional reform movement since the founding of Charter 88: how and why the language of reform groups has changed, and how these developments relate to political disengagement in Britain.

William is also working as a research assistant at the Centre for Financial Analysis & Policy, working with Professor Andrew Gamble to examine the future of populism in Europe and North America.

Prior to starting his research, William worked for and wrote for a number of magazines including the New Statesman, The Spectator and The Week. He has also worked as a parliamentary researcher for an MP.
