House of Commons Reform: Year One Report

Public Seminars 2011-12

Sir George Young, Leader of the House of Commons

Date: Wednesday 30 November, 6.00 pm
Venue: Grimond Room, Portcullis House, Westminster

The expenses crisis pushed parliamentary reform to the top of the political agenda, ensuring it was one of the key priorities of the Coalition Government. 18 months in, and another scandal - phone hacking - has once again propelled Parliament into the spotlight; although this time, Parliament has been widely praised for its role. Leader of the House of Commons Sir George Young MP will discuss the Coalition Government's first year of managing Parliament: how things changed, whether Parliament is a more effective institution and what plans the Coalition has to ensure that the public can be persuaded to put their trust in MPs.
