These two public events, on 11 and 12 June, showcase the work of Unit Director Meg Russell on bicameralism and the legislative process, respectively, for an Italian audience. The events are funded by the UCL Rome Regional Partnership Fund, and co-organised by Professor Nicola Lupo and his Centre for Parliamentary Studies at LUISS University in Rome. Other speakers include Italian academics and senior parliamentary officials.

The first event is entitled 'The challenges of reforming upper houses in the UK and Italy', and will be held in English. Meg Russell will draw on her extensive comparative research on bicameralism, and detailed knowledge of the many failed attempts to reform the UK House of Lords. Other speakers will include Professor Carlo Fusaro (University of Florence), who was a leading figure in the campaign for a Yes vote in the failed referendum on Senate reform in December 2016, which led to the resignation of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. The event takes place at Rome LUISS university, and will be followed by an informal Italian launch of Meg Russell and Daniel Gover's 2017 book Legislation at Westminster.

Start: 11 June 2018, 3pm
Location: Aula Polivalente Viale Romania 32, Roma

Other speakers include Italian academics Francesco Zucchini and Andrea Pedrazzani (University of Milan), Constitution Unit PhD student Roberta Damiani, and several current and former Italian parliamentary officials. The event takes place in the Italian Chamber of Deputies (lower house of parliament).

Location: Sala della Lupa, Camera dei Deputati Piazza di Monte Citorio 1, Roma
