Comparative Literary Studies
Course code: CLITG003.
Credits: 30.
This course introduces students to key concerns in Comparative Literary Studies. We start with an overview of the disciplineās historical development, from the origins of world literature to recent debates about literature and globalisation. The main part of the course consists of two small-group, intensive seminars, which each take place over four week periods. Students are encouraged to pursue their own research interests and to choose from a range of options, including seminars on cultural and gender identities; world literature; literary forms and genres in changing historical contexts; themes, myths, and archetypes; literature and other arts; cultural memory; and reception studies.
Assessment: two 3,500 word essays.
