Research Summary

Dr. Russell Binions received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from University College London (University of London) in 2006. He joined the Materials Chemistry Centre in the department of Chemistry at University College London as a PDRA under the supervision of Prof. Ivan Parkin in late 2005. He gained a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellowship in 2008 which he currently holds at UCL. Dr. Binions research is focused in two main areas. Firstly in chemical vapour deposition where he works to create and develop new and hybrid methodologies to influence the micro-structure and functional properties of thin films and nano-composites. He has a particular interest in thin films for use in energy saving architectural glazing. Secondly, in gas sensing where he works with a variety of industrial partners to develop new solid state metal oxide semi-conductor sensors. He has a particular interest in using zeolitic over-layers to design sensors for targeted applications.
