Research Summary
Professor Jones' main research interest is in Industrial Crystallization, which is a core technology widely used in the manufacture of bulk and fine chemicals and pharmaceutical compounds. Contemporary examples include fine chemicals, nano scale electronic materials and pharmaceuticals.
The crystallization group's work mainly concerns prediction and control of the physical form and structure of crystalline particles produced in bulk, which are important in determining both downstream processing performance and product quality in application. Their studies span fundamentals, applications and process systems. They employ both multiscale modelling and laboratory experimentation. Recent and completed projects cover five main interlinked themes as follows:
1. Crstallizer design and operation
2. Crystallization process systems
3. Crystal product engineering
4. Molecular crystal systems
5. Scale-up and scale-out.
