This is the story of Matia, as she looks back at her childhood and adolescence. The action takes place on an island during the Civil War, and thus the story follows both the course of the war, and its effects on Matia, her family, friends, and the small island community with whom she lives. A look at rural Spain during the civil war, when a majority of the population still lived in the countryside.
