Part-time English Courses
The UCL Centre for Languages & International Education (CLIE) runs part-time academic English courses for participants whose main language is not English. Courses are offered during three academic terms, beginning in October, January and April. All one-term courses are available to both UCL and non-UCL participants who have an academic interest or background.
Most courses run for one term only - either 8 or 9 weeks - and are then repeated the next term for new students. In Term 3, many courses run for 6 weeks with a reduced course fee.
The next programme of courses will begin enrolment in October 2013. The programme is expected to be broadly similar in scope and prices to the 2012-13 courses, but details of any changes will be confirmed here by early September 2013.
ACADEMIC WRITING, ADVANCED GRAMMAR
One-term courses focusing on language and skills for academic writing including elements of the academic essay / PhD dissertation.
ACADEMIC SPEAKING, PRONUNCIATION
One-term courses focusing on speaking, pronunciation or giving clear, formal presentations with the aim of increasing participants' confidence to participate effectively in an academic environment.
(UCL students only)
Taught over 18 weeks (Term 1: 8 weeks; Term 2: 10 weeks), In-sessional EAP is designed to improve a broad range of academic English skills for use in UCL departments. Skills studied and developed will include: reading, writing (supporting the academic essay), listening and speaking (for seminars and presentations), with some attention to pronunciation and appropriate grammar and vocabulary.
ACADEMIC READING and LISTENING (Term 1 only)
The full course covering both skills runs for 8 weeks. Alternatively, either the Reading or Listening element can be taken independently as a 4-week course on its own.
Fees are from £120 per course; please see here for details.
