Diploma in English for Academic Purposes

The UCL Diploma in English for Academic Purposes is an intensive three-term English language, study and research skills course taught over 32 weeks in an exciting and cosmopolitan university environment. The course combines a comprehensive overview of the English language, and a detailed practical study of the skills necessary for academic work and research.

The Diploma course offer a full-time programme specifically designed to meet the needs of international students who wish to prepare for entry onto an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme at a UK university. The Diploma course helps students to extend and develop their language, study and research skills before beginning their chosen academic course.

The Diploma is recognised for the purpose of satisfying UCL’s English Language Proficiency Requirement. The Diploma is also accepted by a number of other leading UK institutions as an English language qualification appropriate for entry to undergraduate and graduate courses in the UK.

The Diploma begins in September each year. There is also a January entry point. The Diploma qualification is accepted by many UK universities. Candidates will be asked to provide evidence of the appropriate English language level and demonstrate a high degree of motivation and commitment in order to be admitted onto the course.

Students enrolled on the Diploma in English for Academic Purposes are registered as full-time UCL students with access to all UCL and University of London academic resources and the many social and sporting facilities of the Student Unions. The course is taught across the central UCL site.
