How to register

Registration steps

1. Registration Form

It may still be possible to register for a course. Please complete the CLIE Academic Reading Registration Form and email it to Jenny EasterWe will put you in contact with the tutor for the language you wish to study to have a brief meeting (this will likely take place on Microsoft Teams) who will discuss the course and confirm the most suitable level for you.

If you are interested in British Sign Language please complete the CLIE PG BSL Registration Form.

2. Payment of course fee

FOR UCL STUDENTS:

If eligible, you may apply to the UCL DocSkills Language Support Fund for course fee funding. If you are applying for funding, you should ALSO complete and submit online directly to the Doctoral School the UCL Doc Skills Language Funding Application 23/24. The deadline to submit this is 06 October 2023.

In order to be eligible to apply, you will need to:

  • Be currently enrolled at UCL on a research programme 
  • Complete the application form before the stated deadline
  • Provide your supervisor's support statement

Before you apply: speak with your supervisor to see if they are happy to support you taking this language course in connection with your research. If your supervisor is happy for you to apply please ask them to provide a short statement in support of your application. This can be either an email sent directly from your supervisor to the UCL Doc Skills Team or you can email a signed statement from your supervisor as an attachment to UCL Doc Skills Team with "Language funding supporting statement" in the subject line.

The Doctoral School will notify the CLIE of funding decisions made, shortly after the 07 October deadline:

CLIE will contact successful applicants directly and confirm enrolment on the course;

The Doctoral School will contact any unsuccessful applicants. 

FOR NON-UCL PARTICIPANTS:

If you are receiving funding from your own institution (or other) please provide email confirmation of this together with registration form, as well as full details of the contact person for invoicing.

SELF-FUNDING:

If you are self-funding, please confirm this when submitting your registration form – payment will be by bank transfer.  

3. Course scheduling

Classes will be scheduled together with the course tutor during the week beginning 02 October 2023; to enable this please email to provide full details of your timetable and availability for classes when registering; classes are scheduled around the availability of all applicants.
