Theophrastus - Minor Works

Update on 5.5.2010: For any enquiries about the Theophrastus Project, please visit or contact David Mirhady.

These pages are maintained by the Department of Greek and Latin, UCL, as part of R. W. Sharples' and the Department's contribution to Project Theophrastus, an international collaborative undertaking initiated by Professor William W. Fortenbaugh of the Department of Classics at Rutgers University, New Jersey, in 1979.

"Opuscula" is the term we are applying to the shorter works by Theophrastus which survive in MSS, as opposed to the longer botanical works on the one hand and the fragments on the other. A comprehensive edition of the opuscula is planned as a sequel to the Project's publication of the fragments: meanwhile, we list here some editions already published, mostly by others and not in the context of the Project. Publications referred to include Greek (or Arabic) text, translation into a modern European language, and commentary, unless otherwise indicated.

RUSCH = Rutgers University Studies in Classical Humanities, published by Transaction, New Brunswick
