Will Shutes is an MPhil/PhD student researching the influence of film on J. G.
Ballard, Chris Petit and Iain Sinclair, with a focus on the idea of reality as stage
set. His other current research interests include the use of stock footage, black
humour such as in the writings of Kenneth Anger, and the desire, from James Joyce to Sinclair, to remove the narrator from the text. A writer for the South London
collective Off Modern, his work will appear in the book Barrett, forthcoming from
Essential Works (March 2011). With Jess Chandler he edits the magazine Test Centre,
also forthcoming in March 2011.
