Nutrition in emergencies, epidemiology of micronutrient deficiencies
Biography: Having started his scientific career in
laboratory research, Andrew then trained in public health nutrition and
now works on nutritional problems in populations affected by disasters,
emergencies, or HIV/AIDS. Recent projects have been funded by the UNHCR,
OFDA, the World Food Programme (WFP), and Valid International. Andrew heads a
research group working on the epidemiology of micronutrient deficiencies
and approaches to enhancing the nutritional quality of food aid;
assessment, diagnosis and management of acute malnutrition; nutritional support in HIV/AIDS; and approaches to human resource development and capacity building. Andrew has worked in Bangladesh,
Eastern Europe, and many countries in Africa.
