Expertise: Food security and livelihoods, community-based interventions to improve
maternal and child health, participatory approaches to development
Biography: Naomi joined CIHD in
2005 as technical advisor to a randomised controlled trial in Dhanusha
district, in the plains of Nepal. The factorial design trial is testing
effectiveness of participatory women’s groups and of community-based neonatal
sepsis management in reducing neonatal mortality. Naomi completed a BA in
Natural Sciences in 1988 and a PhD in ecology in 1993, both at Cambridge
University. She has since worked mainly overseas in community development,
participatory action research, livelihood diversification and natural resources
in Nepal, Somaliland, India, Trinidad and Tobago, Sierra Leone and Kenya. Being
fluent in Nepali and integrated into the culture, Naomi is now applying her
experience in participatory approaches, rural development, and food security /
livelihood assessment, in the maternal and child health context with CIHD in
Nepal.
