Biography: Margaret has an undergraduate degree in Physiological
Sciences from Oxford University and developed an interest in global health during
her voluntary work in Mozambique and Uganda. She has worked for an NGO in northern Uganda, supporting the
implementation of the national Village Health Team strategy. Margaret has an MSc in Public Health
(Health Promotion) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and
completed a dissertation on continuing education and training of voluntary
community health workers in Uganda and India. She is particularly interested in health promotion and the
contribution of community health workers to improving child health in
developing countries.
She joined CIHD in January 2011 as Study Coordinator for an
exploratory study to guide the design of a community based trial in Africa to
evaluate whether massaging babies with emollients can reduce neonatal deaths.
