The Theatre Translation Forum is a new initiative designed to create a meeting space for UCL academics and theatre practitioners to share common themes in their research, presenting and discussing issues relating to the theatrical presentation of translated performance.

Plays in translation feature regularly in the programmes of London theatres, usually described as ‘versions’ or ‘adaptations’.

It is estimated that around half a million theatre visits each year relate to translated performances, demonstrating the relevance and interest of theatrical intercultural transposition for local and visiting audiences.

UCL is ideally placed, academically and geographically, to host debate around the intersection of translation and theatre in London. Teaching and/or research on aspects of theatre and translation take place in the following four academic units:

In partnership with the Gate Theatre, colleagues from the above units will be participating in this programme of events, funded by the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.

The series is convened by Geraldine Brodie and Emma Cole.
