European Cultural Studies Courses

The European Cultural Studies (ECS) courses are taught on an interdepartmental basis by the Departments of Dutch, French, German, Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Italian, Scandinavian Studies, and Spanish and Latin American Studies. Each department contributes specialist subject knowledge to the programme. The courses are administered by the Department of French. They are open to both home and international undergraduate students.


The courses offer critical analysis of European film, literature and cultural concepts through the exploration of key developments in history, thought and politics in the formation of modern Europe.

  • Comparative and Contextual Approaches to Twentieth-Century European Literature;
  • European Film.
